Serving Authentic Hospitality Online: The Vietnam House Redesign

A restaurant’s website is often the first table a guest sits at. For Vietnam House, a beloved authentic Vietnamese culinary destination in the heart of Barcelona, that digital table needed to feel as welcoming, refined, and vibrant as their physical dining room.

When Vietnam House approached us, their digital presence was struggling against common technical hurdles faced by growing hospitality SMEs: slow load times, confusing navigation, and heavy underlying software that made simple updates a chore.

As a new studio focused on purposeful digital strategy, our mandate was end-to-end: from initial concept and UI/UX design to deep architectural restructuring and frontend development. Here is how we stripped away the digital bloat to let the authentic cuisine speak for itself.

The Challenge: Untangling Digital Bloat

Many businesses fall into the trap of using heavy, off-the-shelf software to solve simple problems. The previous Vietnam House website was built on a complex e-commerce framework (WooCommerce)—a powerful tool for online retail, but entirely unnecessary for a restaurant whose primary goal was simply to display a menu and direct guests to reservations.

This architectural mismatch caused three critical issues for the business:

  • Sluggish Performance: Loading an entire e-commerce engine just to view a list of dishes degraded page speed and frustrated mobile users.
  • Fragmented Navigation: The site hierarchy made it difficult for visitors to find core information—hours, location, and booking links—within the first few seconds.
  • Maintenance Overhead: Backend configuration errors and plugin dependencies created unnecessary friction for the restaurant management team.

Our Approach: Lean Architecture, Visual Storytelling

We approached the redesign with a core philosophy: remove what gets in the way, and elevate what matters. We replaced the heavy e-commerce setup with a lightweight, custom-structured menu system optimized for speed and visual appetite.

1. A Seamless 4-Language Experience

Barcelona is a truly global city, home to local Catalans, Spanish residents, international tourists, and a thriving Vietnamese community. To serve this diverse audience without creating friction, we engineered a native 4-language architecture supporting English, Vietnamese, Spanish, and Catalan.

Unlike automated translation overlays that often break layouts or misinterpret culinary terms, the language switching is deeply integrated into the site’s structure. Users can effortlessly switch dialects at any point in their browsing journey without losing their page context.

2. Putting the Cuisine Front and Center

Authentic Vietnamese food relies on freshness, color, and texture. We shifted the visual direction from text-heavy lists to a visual-first layout. High-quality photography takes precedence, supported by clean typography and generous white space that gives the imagery room to breathe.

By designing responsive, card-based menu layouts, we ensured that browsing dishes on a smartphone feels as natural and engaging as reading a physical menu at the table.

3. Under the Hood: Speed and Structural Precision

Great design fails if the foundation is weak. By purging unnecessary plugins and rebuilding the site architecture from scratch, we drastically reduced server requests and overall page weight.

  • Streamlined Navigation: We mapped out a intuitive user journey prioritizing the two highest-value actions for the business: exploring the menu and securing a reservation.
  • Zero-Bloat Codebase: Removing e-commerce bloat immediately boosted mobile page load speeds, directly impacting local SEO rankings and user retention.
  • Empowered Site Management: The backend was rebuilt with the client in mind—clean, intuitive, and easy for the restaurant staff to update seasonal dishes without fearing a technical break.

The Result

The new vietnamhouse.es is a reflection of our agency’s core belief: digital excellence doesn’t require shouting or over-engineering. It requires clarity, speed, and a deep respect for the user’s time. The result is a lightweight, high-performing platform that serves both the business owners and their guests with equal grace.

If your company’s digital architecture feels heavier than the value it delivers, it might be time to simplify. And if you ever find yourself walking the vibrant streets of Barcelona, we highly recommend booking a table at Vietnam House to experience their incredible culinary hospitality firsthand.
